Guardian Homes Wanted Females need to be 2-3 hrs from us. and willing to make 4 trips here a year at Minimum Being a Guardian Home is an excellent, low cost way to have a top quality puppy as a family pet. Because we are a small, family run business we do not have nor do we want a kennel based program. Since we cannot house all of our breeding dogs here at home we are offering the Guardian Home program for our potential breeding dogs. We want our breeding dogs to be raised in caring loving homes as family pets. As a Guardian Home you agree o raise, train and care for a dog throughout their entire breeding career and then retired life also. When you are chosen to be part of the TLC by the Lake Guardian-Home program, we will place you with a pick of the litter puppy at approximately 8 weeks old. A non-refundable security fee of $350 will be collected and the new puppy will become your family pet. You will pay for all normal cost of the care and medical expenses of raising a family pet. TLC will pay for all reproductive testing for your puppy between ages 12-18 months and anything related to Breeding. If your dog does not pass it’s health testing for breeding dogs, you will pay for the spay or neuter of the dog and we will retire the dog from our breeding program and it will remain your family pet, at no additional fee to you. If your dog does pass its health testing it will become a breeding dog for TLC by the Lake. If you have a female she will deliver possible 4 litters for TLC. She will come to our home during her heat cycle for breeding, and then back home to you. She will remain with you throughout her pregnancy and come back to us a week prior to her due date and until the puppies are weaned around 7 wks. Once she has had 3-4 litters you will have her spayed and she will retire with you at no additional fee. If you are a guardian home for a male stud, your life will be much easier. Once he passes his reproductive testing there will be times when natural breeding is required and he will need to come to our home during that process. We also will be working with Canine Semen Bank. They will collect semen from the stud that we can freeze to use at a later date for breeding purposes through Artificial Insemination. Once we have determined we have used him to the fullest potential for our breeding program we will notify you. At that time you will have him neutered per our agreement and he will retire with you at no additional fee. Males are used much longer, 6-7 yrs. Males need to live within 30 mins of TLC. Our Guardian Home Contract covers the details of our program more thoroughly. Selection Process If a puppy is listed -AVAILABLE- beside their Description on their mother page. Then that means their is NO waiting list and they are available to the first Deposit/Qualified family. You need to contact TLC at TLCbytheLakeStandardpoodle@hotmail.com and verify the puppy is available. Then you can submit a Application and Deposit to hold that particular puppy. YOU MUST verify with TLC that the particular puppy is available before submitting a deposit. Selection for Litters/Breeds with a waiting List: When a litter is born we start at the top of that Breed and that breed's size wait list every new Litter. We go down seeing who is ready for this litter. When you say you are interested in a litter, you are put on that litter wait list and will be picking on selection day at 4-5 wks of age. When we fill the litter with enough families to match the same amount of puppies, we then set up Selection day, usually at 4-5wks. This can take up to 1 wks to wait for families to get back to us to have the final litter wait list set. And that also may change up till selection day. We have selection day at 4-5 weeks of age and puppies are picked in order of oldest to newest deposit date. Every family is appointed a time on selection day. Selection starts at 10am and goes every 30 min per family. Selection is done here at TLC by the Lake (McHenry, MD). If you are not able to come on Selection day you can pick through pictures and video and/or you may do your selection by Skype, FaceTime or Zoom.
