Standard Poodles do not require a lot of excercise but they do need some. Doodles need Micro/Mini and doddles need 3x daily30 min walks and exercise to maintain good behavior. Their diet is of upmost importance. We don't pretend to know everything about nutrition but our many years of experience has taught us a lot about how to care for our Puppies and what we feed them. Poodles that are well bred will have healthy skin and beautiful curly coats of hair if given the proper nutrition. We watch the many different dog foods and the ingredients they are made with and watch closely the brands that have been re-called. Fortunately we have never fed one of the re-called dog foods. We feed out of the oldest batch first so if there is a re-call on that particular brand of dog food we wouldn't be feeding the latest manufactured or the batch which is being re-called. We also feed two brands of dog food and mix it. Therefore, if there would happened to be a re-call on one of the brands we are using (God forbid) then we will stop that brand and continue with the other. Then our Puppies won't experience an abrupt change in their diet. After doing some research we found what seems to be some reliable information for you on how you can determine whether or not you are giving the best nutrition to you Poodles and doodles. We have the information for you. We do want to state that we are not nutritionist and that we are providing this information without any prejudice nor do we claim the expertise to determine the accuracy of the information but will state that, in our opinion it seems to be a good rule of thumb in determining the better quality of the different dog foods being sold. We will supply this list to our puppy owners. View our shop Shop Now

- Puppy House Breaking | TLC by the Lake | Poodle and Doodle Breeder
Family run breeder of AKC/CKC Standard and Moyen Poodle, Standard and Mini Sheepadoodle, Standard and Mini Bernadoodle, Medium and Mini Goldendoodle. House Breaking Spend as much time with your puppy as possible during the first two to three weeks your puppy is home. Be consistent, patient, praise when appropriate, and be willing - for however long it takes - to invest the time and energy necessary to make this important training time a success. The effort you put forth now will be well worth it for the lifetime of your pup. Here are some suggestions for house training puppy. BUY A CRATE OR BABY GATE Confinement and routine are the two important things to remember in potty training your puppy quickly and successfully. A baby gate can be used to place baby in a utility room, or bathroom, with a tile floor. A pet bed, food and fresh water, puppy will be safe while you are out. A crate, no paper down, is used to teach puppy to “hold it”, until you take him to his place to potty. ESTABLISH A SCHEDULE Establish a schedule and don’t deviate from it. The “when” and “how” you housetrain needs to be consistent so make sure all the family members follow the same guidelines. PICK THE SOILING SPOT Pick the soiling spot, a place in your yard, and take your pup there when it is time to eliminate. The odor from previous visits to this spot will stimulate the urge to defecate and /or urinate. BE PATIENT Dogs may urinate or defecate more than once during the outing. Don’t distract your pup from the job at hand. Some pups do not want you to observe them while going potty. If this is the case, place them in a safe place, such as an exercise pen, and leave them alone long enough to take care of their needs. If you catch puppy in the act of having and accident, tell him, “NO!” forcefully, pick him up and take him to his potty place. If you don’t catch him, simply clean up the mess and scold yourself for not being available. Do not scold the puppy. PRAISE THEM Praise them for their success. Pat them and say, “Good Dog”. Be consistent, patient, praise when appropriate, and be willing__for however long it takes___ to invest the time and energy necessary to make this important training time a success. The effort you put forth now will be well worth it for the lifetime of your pet. MOST PUPPIES SHOULD BE TAKEN OUT: After waking in the mornings After naps After meals After play or training Before being put to bed The #1 rule in this, as in training your dog to do anything, is to be consistent!! Family run breeder of AKC/CKC Standard and Moyen Poodle, Standard and Mini Sheepadoodle, Standard and Mini Bernadoodle, Medium and Mini Goldendoodle. Puppy Care Everything you need to know from choosing your puppy, to caring for your puppy from delivery to adulthood! Always reach out to TLC if you have any questions or concerns, we love to help! Male Vs Female So you've done your research and decided on a Poodle or Doodle. You've asked many questions and seen how the puppies are raised, you've met the breeder and the parents of the puppies and you're ready to make your choice. Your pick should be based on a matching personality with the puppy in question. How does the puppy react to you and your family, kids? The sex of the puppy should be your last consideration. Why? Because most people have a huge misconception on sexes and personalities. Most feel a female is a sweet, loving dog who is a caretaker of puppies and children. Well, that's not always so! Female dogs are nice; I like my girls and I'm pretty sure they like me. They come to me and get attention, and then some will stay but most go to find the most comfortable spot for them. Perhaps this matches your personality perfectly--maybe you want a dog that isn't overly affectionate. Girls take training seriously, and most are very good at obedience. Females can be alpha dogs just as easily as a male can. Spayed females, of course, make a much better family pet than unspayed females do. Boys tend to get a bad rap because, in your mind, you remember the neighbor's disgusting unaltered male dog hiking his leg on every bush in the neighborhood and doing nasty "boy" things. Male dogs that are intended to be family pets NEED to be neutered at an early age (6-9 months old). When you do YOUR part, you have an absolutely wonderful family member. They usually squat to piddle, never develop any type of nasty habit and are extremely loving dogs. Where your girls will get their attention and go lie down, a boy will stay near you. He likes to be with his person, he likes to be loved on; he is "devoted" to you. Yes, he takes his training seriously. But then he likes to have FUN, he likes to play in the yard--he doesn't like to take life too seriously all the time! So before you choose a dog based on its sex only, consider the other elements. Are you the type of person who likes an independent dog, or one who prefers a dog that worships the ground you walk on? Of course there is the exception to every rule and the amount of time you spend with your puppy will make a huge difference in his or her personality. My suggestion is to spend time with your potential choice at the breeder's, but don't ignore a potential 'perfect match' for you because it may not be the sex you originally sought! Puppy Development Learn about puppy development from week 1 to 7 Read Here House Breaking The Key to Training Success is You! Read Here Nutrition Nutrition guide for your Standard Poodle or Doodle Read Here Canine Vaccines Canine Distemper Vaccine Although this shot is commonly called the "distemper vaccine", it covers 4 other important diseases as well. This is a DA2PPvL which stands for distemper, adenovirus, parainfluenza, parvovirus, and leptospirosis. We recommend this vaccination as a core vaccine for all dogs. It is done with an initial puppy series, and then once every 1- 3 years thereafter. Of the 5 components of this vaccination, only leptospirosis has to be boosted on a yearly basis. Family run breeder of AKC/CKC Standard and Moyen Poodle, Standard and Mini Sheepadoodle, Standard and Mini Bernadoodle, Medium and Mini Goldendoodle. What is a Bernese Mt Dog? Size: Big, powerful, and built for hard work, the Bernese Mountain Dog is also strikingly beautiful and blessed with a sweet, affectionate nature. The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large, sturdy worker who can stand over 27 inches at the shoulder. Males 80-115lbs Females 70-90lbs Coat: The Bernese Mountain Dog has a double coat, with a longer outer coat and a wooly undercoat. Berners shed a fair amount, even more so during shedding season, which occurs twice a year. Weekly brushing'¿daily during shedding season'¿will help to remove loose hair and keep the dog looking his best. Any tangles can be worked out with a slicker brush or metal comb. As with all breeds, the nails should be trimmed regularly, as overly long nails can cause the dog pain and structural problems. Character: Bernese are extremely smart, loyal, and good in nature. They can be wary around strangers so it is important to socialize them as early in life as possible.Berners are generally placid but are always up for a romp with the owner, whom they live to please. Temperament : Big, powerful, and built for hard work, the Bernese Mountain Dog is also strikingly beautiful and blessed with a sweet, affectionate nature. Berners are generally placid but are always up for a romp with the owner, whom they live to please. The Bernese Mountain Dog is a large, sturdy worker who can stand over 27 inches at the shoulder. The thick, silky, and moderately long coat is tricolored: jet black, clear white, and rust. The distinctive markings on the coat and face are breed hallmarks and, combined with the intelligent gleam in the dark eyes, add to the Berner's aura of majestic nobility. A hardy dog who thrives in cold weather, the Berner's brain and brawn helped him multitask on the farms and pastures of Switzerland. Berners get along with the entire family and are particularly gentle with children, but they will often become more attached to one lucky human. Berners are imposing but not threatening, and they maintain an aloof dignity with strangers. Care: Bernese require moderate maintenance. Because the Bernese parent contributes constant and seasonal shedding of all of the coat types, brushing your Bernese a couple times a week is recommended. Bathing is recommended as needed. Bernese have a moderate shedding rate . Routine teeth cleaning, eye exams, and ear cleaning should be built into your regimen. Training: When they are still young, Bernese can be a little bit headstrong. Therefore, it is important that you start your Bernese puppy with socialization and training early. Use a clear, strong voice with a kind, positive tone to train your Bernese. They are very intelligent with an eager-to-please nature that makes it easier for them to be trained. It might take a few repeats of your instruction, but these pups are usually quick to comply with commands. Reward good behavior and obedience with meaty, bite-sized treats and lots of praise and encouragement. Bernese are extra-sensitive to your tone and mood, so harshness will scare them into shying away from you. Activity: Bernese Mountain Dogs need at least a half-hour of moderate exercise every day to stay healthy and happy. While they are definitely meant to live indoors with their human family, Berners enjoy outdoor activities and make great companions on long walks or hikes. Outdoorsy owners often take their canine companions camping and backpacking. Berners enjoy pulling young children in a cart, and some even participate in carting and drafting competitions. Other canine sports in which Berners participate and excel include agility, herding, obedience, rally, and tracking. Life Expectancy: 7-10 Years Standard Bernedoodles Standard Bernedoodle that is predicted to be 70-90 lbs or more at adulthood. Mini/Medium Bernedoodle Medium Bernedoodle that is predicted to be 25-49 lbs or more at adulthood. Toy Berndoodle Toy Bernedoodle that is predicted to be 10-25 lbs or more at adulthood.
