Standard Poodles Non-Sporting Group Breed Standard General Appearance, Carriage and Condition That of a very active, intelligent and elegant-appearing dog, squarely built, well proportioned, moving soundly and carrying himself proudly. Properly clipped in the traditional fashion and carefully groomed, the Poodle has about him an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to himself. The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders. Any Poodle which is 15 inches or less in height shall be disqualified from competition as a Standard Poodle. Proportion : To insure the desirable squarely built appearance, the length of body measured from the breastbone to the point of the rump approximates the height from the highest point of the shoulders to the ground. Substance : Bone and muscle of both forelegs and hindlegs are in proportion to size of dog. COAT: Quality --(1) Curly: of naturally harsh texture, dense throughout. (2) Corded: hanging in tight even cords of varying length; longer on mane or body coat, head, and ears; shorter on puffs, bracelets, and pompons. Clip -- A Poodle under 12 months may be shown in the "Puppy" clip. In all regular classes, Poodles 12 months or over must be shown in the "English Saddle" or "Continental" clip. Temperament: Carrying themself proudly, very active, intelligent, the Poodle has about them an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to themself. Major fault: shyness or sharpness. Poodles are good family dogs — fun, energetic, smart and easy to train. They do best with plenty of exercise for both mind and body and prefer to be with people most of the time. They are not good kennel dogs. Socialization should begin early and include other people, other pets and the grooming routine. Life Expectancy: 12-15 Years What is a Moyen Standard Poodle A Small Standard or Moyen or Klein poodle in the U.S. is usually considered 15" to 20" tall. They are becoming popular for people that'd like the calmer Standard Poodle but in a smaller package. People that live in a smaller home, condo or apartment find it easier to have a Moyen Klein poodle. The Moyen Klein Small Standard Poodles fit perfectly with their smart, affectionate, loveable ways but they eat less, easier to bathe and groom, and fit in a smaller area or crate. The other difference with this smaller size of Standard Poodle, is that as long as they don't get overweight, they don't tend to have the same issues with hip dysplasia that larger dogs do. Also, smaller dogs tend to live longer than really large dogs. MERLE COAT PATTERN EXPLAINED Merle is a dilution gene, that is, it lightens whatever the coat color would otherwise have been. The lightening is not spread evenly over the coat, but leaves patches of undiluted color scattered over the dog's body. Old English Sheepdog + Poodle = Sheepadoodle View Available Sheepadoodle Notable for their calm temperament as adults and love of people, the Sheepadoodle makes a GREAT family dog. A Sheepadoodle is considered a designer breed, or a cross between an Old English Sheepdog and a Poodle Their puppies have the best of both breeds, and they are a nearly hypoallergenic breed with long, soft coats that range anywhere from straight to curly. Hypoallergenic means most likely to cause LESS of a allergic reaction then most other breeds. Hypoallergenic is on a Person by Person basis. The OES is 98% shed free and the Poodle is 100% shed free but the hair dander is still in the follicle of the dog's hair which is what causes the reaction in individuals that are allergic. If allergic, you never should be the one brushing out your dog. Grooming : Sheepadoodles should generally be groomed every 6-8 weeks. Sheepadoodles & Sheepadoodle puppies are incredibly intelligent and easily trained, but do require quality training. This can not be left to those who have not trained a dog before. They make for a wonderful family pet and can even be very good health care service dogs or guidance dogs. They love to be with their family, play, go for walks, or just be by your side. Because they are very family oriented dogs, they want to please you in every way. The OES (Old English Sheepdog) is a herding dog so the Sheepadoodle can show some herding characteristics too. They may nibble or move their butt to herd kids where they think they need to be. None of this is aggressive behavior but more breed characteristic. This all can be worked on with training but needs to be supervised by adults. The Sheepadoodle is becoming a very popular breed . Do your research before buying from your breeder. Question if health testing is done on both parents before they were bred. Hip and elbow displasia, seizure, and thyroid porblems are all health issues for both the Poodle and OES. VonW for the poodle is another issue. Sheepadoodles have the best of both breeds, with long, soft coats that range anywhere from straight to curly. Sheepadoodles are known for being energetic, friendly, gentle, intelligent, loving, playful, quiet, and sweet. The standard Sheepadoodle is known for being calm also. Sheepadoodle puppies are incredibly intelligent and easily trained. Sheepadoodles make for a wonderful family pet and many have even been trained as service dogs. Sheepadoodles love to be with their family, play, go for walks, or just hang out with you. Because Sheepadoodles are very family oriented dogs, they want to please you in every way. Notable for their love of people, the Sheepadoodle make a great family dog. It’s rare to see a Sheepadoodle with a straight coat as an adult but some do most are wavy to curly. Behavior: Behavior difference between Standard, Mini, Micro. The difference is only in the poodle. A Standard poodle is a total different breed when it comes to energy level compared to a Miniature or Toy. The Standard is very calm and relaxed. The miniature and toys are much higher energy. Fencing: As with all dogs for their protection from strays and the occasional squirrel or cat, which they will want to go round up, a fenced in yard is recommended. Standard Sheepadoodles F1 results from crossing a Standard Poodle with a Old English Sheepdog, will generally be 60 lbs. and up. F1B-results from crossing a Standard Poodle with a F1 Sheepadoodle, will generally be 55 lbs. and up. Moyen Sheepadoodle F1 results from crossing a Moyen(Sm Standard) Poodle with a Old English Sheepdog, will generally be 45 lbs. and 80lb. F1B results from crossing a Moyen(Sm Standard) Poodle with a Sheepadoodle, will generally be 45lbs. and 80lb. Mini Sheepadoodles F1 results from crossing a Miniature Poodle with a Old English Sheepdog, generally ranges from 12"-21" 20-49 lbs. F1B -results from crossing a Miniature Poodle with a Standard Sheepadoodle, generally ranges from 12"- 18" 25-45 lbs. Micro/F1B Mini Sheepadoodle F1B results from crossing a Miniature Poodle with a Mini Sheepadoodle, generally ranges from 10"- 18" 15lb-30 lbs. (We do not currently breed this size) Sheepadoodles are like all other breeds and sometimes can vary from these weights as mature adults.
